hunting vest or backpack?
ok, i hunt in a stand. here is how it goes: i wake up at 5 am and get dressed and spray my clothes with scent killer and get some food, then we head out to our stands in the truck. i take a backpack with some misc. stuff like: knife, ammo, pen, hunting license, binoculars and a range finder. so my backpack is pretty empty. so my question is should i just take a hunting vest and put it in there since i dont take much stuff?
Your vest would be fine for the items you mentioned. But the back back will hold more stuff and pack it better. Items like a rain suit in case you hunt on a rainy day, or if you intend to hunt all day you could bring lunch also. And you did not mention any flashlights. You need one for walking to and from your stand in the dark and you need a tracking light in case of a late evening shot and a long tracking job.
In other words don't throw away the back pack. There may be times you will need it. I use mine when I make long hunts in the thickets that I cannot get my atv or deer buggy in or out of. If I make a kill I take a large garbage bag to line my back pack with and I quarter up the deer, 2 hindquarters, 2 front shoulders, and 2 back straps and put them inside the garbage bag in the back pack. It makes it easy to transport the deer and the coyotes and black bear can eat that night on the carcass.
