what is the best digital camera brand?

i think i want a camera for christmas, but i really dont know which brand is the best. i was thinking either sony or panasonic (lumix). and i dont want any of those huge binocular types, just a normal digital camera. 8-10 megapixels. thanks

Why dont you try Nikon D80 if you are really into Photography!!!
