Visible Satellites above Reno?
Looking straight up with binoculars at 1:05am on 6/24/09 - a new moon night - I spotted two satellites passing each other in opposite directions along approximately NE and SW directions. I spotted one first and, following its path, the second one. Both moved at constant rates, slowly enough to follow by sight. They looked like dim stars in low earth orbit (I assume), not fireballs which I've previously spotted. Does anyone know which satellites these would be and if they would be regular visitors?
This website: http://www.heavens-above.com/ says that the Lacrosse 4 Rocket was moving from east to northeast, as seen from Reno at the time you mention. The faintest satellite given in these predictions is magnitude 4.5, so if you were using binoculars, the other satellite you saw may have been fainter than this and therefore not in the list of predictions. However, this is generally a very good website for identifying satellites.
