What is the best telescope that isn't too expensive?
I am very interested in buying a telescope, however I do not want a "beginner" telescope. I would like a great amateur one, at least 8 inch. I've heard reflector is a little better than refractor. What brand and type is recommended?
I can see Jupiter every night and have looked through a friend's reflector and saw it sharply, but it was a little small and too bright to make out the spot or stripes. I tried another of his, a larger refractor. The image was larger and less bright, so I could make out stripes, but it was quite blurry.
So I want one that planets will appear large and clear, and be able to see nebulea and constelations aswell.
Please provide the brand and type and if possible a link.
Thanks!
I suggest you join an astronomy club or at least go to a couple star party's and see what you like.
A good telescope for dso's(deep space objects) is the reflector type and the easiest to use and set up is a dob,(Dobsonian mount). To get a telescope that will give you views of Galaxy's,nebula, clusters and such you will need at least 6" aperture and a little more money.
This is a good place to do some window shopping-

Thay really stand behind their products.
Stay away from e-bay and department store telescopes.
