What are the best marineboating binoculars for under $100?

I am looking to buy binoculars for boating. I am on a budget and would like to spend between $50 and $100. The need to be water proof of course, but I'm not sure what would be the best use of my money.

If you don't want to buy new binoculars, shop around for used ex-military ones.
I've had a pair of ex-Admiralty 7 x 50 Bausch and Lomb, eyepiece focussing binoculars for many years. They probably date from World War 2 and could even have been lease-lend. They have never suffered any water penetration what ever and because of their advanced optical design, have a very large depth of field, probably from about 6 metres to infinity. This was probably very useful for picking up the tiny plume made by a submarine's periscope after grabbing them at short notice and using them without the need to fiddle around re-focussing. Whatever you decide to get, avoid binoculars with centre telescopic focussing and too large a magnification. Seven is about the optimum magnification to give shake-free vision and telescopic construction is unlikely to be truly watertight..
