What is the best kind of binocular for amateur stargazing?
Hello,
I am getting into astronomy and would like to purchase a pair of binoculars. I asked my astronomy professor, who told me that a 7x50 would be good. However, browsing through the internet, I find good 7x50's for sale at about 70+ dollars. I found a pair of 10x50's for 30 dollars--do you think it is worth it to get the 10x50's? I hear that they require a tripod because of the high magnification. What do you think, is it worth it to pay the extra for the 7 50s?
7x50 are a basic binocular, you pay for what you get I have seen them as cheap as $10us at the swap meet to $1000us at various dealers the difference is in the lens coatings, quality of glass, focus and durability. just to bring some stars into a more clear view because older eyes just don't see as much any more a good pair of Nikon's will run you around a $100. I prefer a bit more power for wildlife viewing 10x50 and these are about in the same price.
